Reading Rooms

In the Archives' Reading Rooms you can use registers to find the records that you require.

Registers are a type of table of contents that show which records and documents etc. are located in a specific archive creator's archive. The Reading Room staff can also help you to find the files that you require.

The catalogue of the Danish State Archives, Daisy

More and more files are being registered in the State Archives' archive database Daisy. Once the records have been registered in Daisy, you can use Daisy to search for them. Daisy can be found online here. It is, however, only available in a Danish language version.

Libraries

The Archives have library sections containing books (in Danish) on subjects such as archiving, published sources, local history and genealogy. The books may not be removed from the Reading Room.

Laptops and wireless network

PCs are installed in the Reading Rooms for use by Reading Room guests. You are also welcome to bring your own laptop.

There is a wireless network in all of the State Archives' Reading Rooms. Please go to the counter to receive a password for the network.

Photocopying

You can photocopy records in the Reading Rooms using the photocopying machines, which have a coin slot.

You cannot make copies of every record. The Reading Room staff will be able to inform you whether you are allowed to make a copy.

Photography using your own equipment

You are permitted - to a limited extent - to take photos of records using your own equipment. Special photography areas have been established in some Reading Rooms.

Please note that you may not be permitted to copy or photograph records due to regulations on accessibility or due to the record's physical condition. Please ask the Reading Room staff if you may photograph the desired records.

Other rules in the Reading Rooms

Mobile phones must be turned off when using the Archives. Coats, bags, food and drinks may not be brought into the Archives. Cloakrooms are available for coats and other objects. Items of value may be deposited in lockers. The actual conditions vary per location, but most reading rooms have adjoining lunch rooms available where people using the facilities may eat their packed lunches.
